Ugly Girls in Ugly Sweaters

Sooo...every year me and my girls from high school throw a Christmas Party! This year was our 3rd Annual one and the theme was UGLY Christmas Sweaters! How cool, right?! I know...I know. We're cool. Anywaaaay, we all contributed in making this party nothing but memorable, from the food to the decorations to the games to the PEOPLE! :) As a gift to the girls (and our party guests) I decided to design a Christmas card! Take a look at it and let me know what you think. These girls are the bomb and I love them. The love has been here since high school. Awww I LOVE YOU LADIES!!! Thanks! The party was a SUCCESS! 'Til next year!

Happy Holidays!

GUESS WHAAAT! It's December, which means, time for eggnog and family and scarves and hot chocolate and parties and friends and ugly sweaters and mistletoe and snow and cuddling! I'm so excited!!! This time of year is so cozy and joyous it makes me all warm inside just thinking about it. I swear, if you were to catch me anywhere, more than anything, I'd probably be singing Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer at the top of my lungs.

At this time, I want to thank all of the people who have visited my blog and have taken something from my art. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for appreciating the gift that God gave me. I truly feel the love and support. God is OH SO good. He gets all the credit. I am merely a tool.

Sending blessings and love to you all.
Muah! xoxo

Etch-a-Sketch

Look what I found! About a month ago, I hung out with an old friend of mine. I ended up doodling the drawing on the left on a random piece of paper that I found, just because. My friend, being the competitive man he is, was like, "Maaan...that ain't nothin'. I could do that." He then sketched the doodle you see on the right. I was like, "Dude. What the heck is that?" He tried to say somethin' like it's a villain or somethin'...idk. He's a weirdo. Ha!

Etch-a-Sketch

The other day, I was given super powers. In addition to saving little old ladies from burning buildings and flying in the night sky under a full moon with my cape, I drew this.

Late Nights Late Bites

Here's a piece I did about a year ago (inspired by yours truly).
I remember I stayed up all night that night watching Finding Nemo and drawing nonstop.

Etch-a-Sketch

Sketch of my girl Gabriella Gala, the creator of the non-profit organization Project Share Love. World-changer, choreographer, dancer, artist, and singer, this woman is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Some of my most recent doodles of people sitting at Starbucks, commuting on the Orange Line during the Los Angeles 405-freeway shut down (aka: Carmageddon), my best friend as a career woman in her brand new registered nurse cap, and a couple of other randoms.

Etch-a-Sketch

A friend of mine had a Facebook picture up and his features just captured me and I HAD TO draw him. :) I don't usually draw men so I thought this would be nice practice. I go to school with this guy and he's also an amazing artist! Everyone, meet Alex.

Summa Summa Summa Time

Here's my first summer-inspired poster! The name of this is KICK BACK COOL OFF. I'm thinkin' I'm going to make a series of these. This actually started out as a sketch I did of me crossin' my legs wearin' my lovely chucks. If you have any ideas for a poster that you'd like, let me know. I'm a creating machine.

Sculpture for Animation!

Hello All

In my last post, I uploaded my sketch ideas for a mask assignment that I had in my Sculpture for Animation class. Since then, I've come up with a more finalized sketched version of what I really wanted my mask to look like.

The official assignment/Project #1 was to create a Meta-Me Mask. The objective was to think about yourself, your characteristics (not just physical), create the mask/face/head of the character that would highlight, amplify, negate, or eliminate your specific qualities, and to use and TRANSFORM any materials.

Below I've included my more recent sketch and brainstorm of ideas & THE ACTUAL MASK thingy. :)

My brain farted on that paper.

INTRODUCING...SWEET LIPS! She's LOUD, smart, expressive, sweet, likable, opinionated, stylish, and BOLD! SHE's ME! You either LOVE HER or you HATE HER!

Materials used:
16 Fruit Roll Ups
About 25 Mini Tootsie Rolls
6 pairs of socks
A Von Dutch hat, courtesy of Adam :)
Water bottle
Clear Wrap
Crazy & Cement Glue
Cardboard
Duct tape
Toothpicks

Recess Is Over

Above is a sketch of a mirrored image of my face.

I'm taking a class called Sculpture for Animation and the 1st assignment is to construct a mask OUT OF ANYTHING! The mask is supposed to resemble a part of my personality so, I want to make the whole front part of the mask A HUGE MOUTH because (those of you who know me, know that) I ALWAYS HAVE A LOT TO SAY! Above are a couple of sketches of my ideas for the mask. Tell me what you think? Suggestions?

Princess Power

I saw Tangled the other day and I LOVED IT! Here's a QUICK lil sketch I did of Rapunzel today!
If you haven't seen the movie GO SEE IT! I Red Boxed it the other day. $1-a-day movies. I love Red Box!!!

Ayo World Wide Web!!!

So it's been a lil minute since I've posted anything.

Life has been wild! In a nutshell, I did some traveling. I made my way over to the ATL for a lil bit for dance and now I'm BACK in Cali Cali. School's back on and poppin'! Happy happy! Soooo here's a post of a lil doodle I did of my name. :) The perfect welcome back post!

Refrigerator Work

The grade sheet for my typography project.

We had to choose a font and create an enlarged design including 27 typeface anatomy terms.
The font I chose was Old Style Garamond.

Before our instructor graded it, we posted our grade sheets beside our projects and the class went around and graded each others' work, marking it with a 1-5. 1 being the worst. 5 being the best. Shout out to my peers who gave me the high scores :) Thank you!

CHECK IT OUT!

Me and my partner-in-typography-crime MADE THIS HAPPEN!

We had to research a type designer and present our information in front of the class via Powerpoint. Our designer's name was David Carson.

We asked ourselves, "what would be better than a boring Powerpoint presentation?"
GETTING DAVID CARSON TO ACTUALLY COME IN TO CLASS FOR AN INTERVIEW!
Well...since we couldn't get him...the next best thing to that would be to ACT like David Carson,
SO that's what we did.
Carlos played the role of Mr. Carson and I was the interviewer.
HAHAHA! We got everyone GOOD!!!

Anywho, keep stalking my art :) and you shall see it soon! Oh and btw, I like the stalking. Don't be ashamed. I'm a blog-stalker myself...and PROOOUD of it.

Quarters Past

On this Monday, I've also decided to post some work from my past quarters at Ai.

These first three pieces are from my first quarter at Ai in my Color Theory class.

These two pieces below are from the quarter that just passed - Quarter 2.

Recess is Over

Happy Monday my cyber-folk! I hope your weekend was a beautiful one (despite the rain and hail that my Cali people had to endure). Today I've decided to post drawings from the past 2 weeks of my gesture drawing class. We normally get a new model every week. The drawings below are of two models total. Check 'em! :)

Squeaky Clean

'Ello Mates *In my Australian accent* Hope you're having a happy hump day.
Right now I'm in my character design class on break. I just got done presenting my 3 characters - The Cali Valley Girls (earlier post).
[SideNote: I have the same character design instructor as my gesture drawing class the day before. So, with that being said, I showed her my 3 drawings yesterday and she told me to clean up the line quality before today (when the homework was due). On an extreme note, she wanted more of "The Incredibles" cleanliness, less of "Ed, Edd n Eddy." Lol! Because I had already completed all 3 she required that I just clean one of them; the "Dom" character. She chose Dom because of the pose.]
Fast-forward to today's class, I presented all three characters (with the modified Dom character). Here's the new Dom:

I modified the design in Adobe Illustrator.
What do you think? The original OR the modified STYLIZED version? Thoughts? Thanks :)

Etch-a-Sketch

Right now I'm at school on break in my gesture drawing class so, I thought, "hey! I have time! Let me go post something!" Now here I am.
Okay...so...last night, I was on my way back home from school around midnight. I normally whip out my sketch book as I'm commuting home since I have a 45-minute commute. As I was settling myself on the bus, there was a man on the bus with a guitar who asked me if I was an artist. I told him yes (of course). Then he asked if I'd be able to draw him. I told him that I'd draw him right then and there and for him to act natural. This is what I did:
He was a cool guy. Very cool chill personality. :) His name was Albert.
As he was getting off at his stop, I overheard him tell another commuter on the bus, "Music saved my life." :)

Character Design Homework

Soooo tonight I worked on my Character Design homework!
I had to create three stylized characters.
I was inspired by my two girls: Angie Marie and Dom...aaand myself. :)

I initially thought that if I were to create a cartoon on us, it'd be called "The Valley Girls," since we are all "technically" valley girls. Then I thought that "Cali Girls" would be a cute name as well. Soooo I'm in between both names.

Which title do you like better? And what do you think about the designs?
Let me know your thoughts!
xoxo Muah! S.dotBerry
